Aid, Humanity and Peace: Need of the Hours
This week the world and the Middle East underwent events which went beyond borders, geopolitical status, religion and most importantly, humanity.
With Hamas striking against Israel 2 weeks ago, the signs of peace are pending. The ongoing events undauntedly, have sent tremors across the globe with harsh acts against humanity, civilians and, children.
Hospital Attack and its ramifications
An airstrike on A-Ahli al-Arabi Hospital led to the loss of 500 people. It has been noted as the deadliest attack since the start of the current turbulence. Initially, it was considered the attack was conducted by Israel, but the country has denied the allegations. It said that the incident took place due to a misfired rocket by a militant group causing devastation.
The attack came in time for the US President's visit to Israel, where the president supported Israel in its denial of the above allegations.
Post the attack, the shift in international relations and dynamics is evident. Biden’s summit with Arab leaders was called off. This started with backing out of Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas after the hospital attack in Gaza.
Jordan’s minister said the summit would take place only when all participants agreed on the purpose, which is to ‘stop the war, respect the humanity of the Palestinians, and deliver the aid they deserve’.
The attack on the hospital led to condemnation of Israel and protests in many cities in the Middle East. Whereas, western countries have condemned the targeting of civilian lives.
The first 20 aid trucks enter the Gaza
Rafah Border adjoining Gaza and Egywhich pt, which is the only Gaza border not controlled by Israel.
A convoy of trucks with humanitarian supply and aid of drinking water, food and medicines entered Gaza from Egypt, on 21 October 2023. An estimated 20 trucks have entered the border, but the supplies are just a single drop in the ocean as they may not be able to fulfil the demands of the civilians.
Policymakers have suggested that a regular and sustained delivery of goods is required to meet the needs of the people.
In light of this, the US government has posted a press statement on its support for the people of Gaza and how it aims to work in partnership with Egypt and Israel to support US citizens in the region.
Booming global nuclear stockpile
The ongoing geopolitical tensions have shifted the international community’s attention. China has paced its nuclear stockpile from 400 in 2021 to 500 in the past year. This data is based on the report shared by the Pentagon. However, the report stated that China stays behind Russia with 5889 and the USA with 5244.

India’s Space Program
The successful launch of Chandrayaan-3 and its landing on the Moon’s south pole has made India plan its space program’s future.
The Government of India and ISRO have set ambitious goals from setting up an Indian Space Station by 2035 and sending the first Indian to space by 2040.
In the current series of events, ISRO has completed the first series of test flights for its Ganganyaan mission which aims to send humans into space for a three-day trip in 2025. This would put India on the list of countries with the ability for human-crewed spaceflight.
