In India’s ambitions in education, the new draft inviting foreign universities to set campuses has created an exciting dialogue.
This week, University Grants Commission (UGC) has put out a draft of legislation inviting foreign universities to set up their campuses or Foreign Higher Education Institutes (FHEIs) in India- for public review and feedback.
The legislation mentions that only the top 500 universities globally would be allowed to set up and operate. Along with that, these institutions have to ensure the quality of education and value of degrees is at par with the main campus.
The draft also reads, “The foreign institute shall decide the fee structure, which should be transparent and reasonable.”
The draft gives autonomy to FHEIs in determining the faculty recruitment process. With the condition, that qualification and faculty be at par with the main campus.
Keeping the interest of students in mind, the draft makes a point that the university cannot discontinue a course or close a campus without the permission of the commission.
Lastly, it states that no course should question or harm the sovereignty or interests of India. Or impact relations with any country, public order, morality or decency.
Let’s talk about GPT
ChatGPT is the brainchild of OpenAI, an artificial intelligence research company. Driven with a mission to develop a "safe and beneficial" artificial general intelligence system or to help others do so.
What is Chat GPT?
So, Chat GPT is an AI chatbot to which you can ask questions and get useful responses. You can ask for general knowledge-based questions or even ask them to write a poem.
Now actually, ChatGPT does not know anything in particular. It's an AI that's trained to recognize patterns in vast swaths of text harvested from the internet, then further trained with human assistance to deliver more useful, better dialogue. The responses may seem correct, with an authoritative tone but actually, be completely incorrect.
Can it hinder the learning process?
In a recent move, New York City’s public schools have banned the usage of ChatGPT due to fears that students may resort to plagiarising using the tool.
In a recent statement, the tool with be banned on all devices and networks within the school systems of the city.
